RICHARD DeSIREY MS, LPC
University of Oklahoma, BS in Education; Oklahoma State University, MS in Community Counseling. Richard has worked in Tulsa and throughout Oklahoma serving emotionally and behaviorally challenged youth since 1976. He started the first Tulsa area Alternative School for suspended students in 1976, group home for youth adjudicated In Need of Treatment in 1982, Therapeutic Foster Care program in 1984, and has since directed services, consulted, and been a provider of counseling services for various mental health providers in Tulsa and throughout the state. His consultation elsewhere, as close as Texas and as far as Puerto Rico and Alaska has stimulated other developments.
Since 1993, he has championed Systems of Care locally, statewide and nationally, worked closely with youth in the custody of Child Welfare, and always focused on adolescents that have serious behavioral challenges. He is trauma informed; addressing the impact of trauma in shaping feelings/beliefs that interfere with recovery. Mr. DeSirey has consistently advanced, both through his private practice and consultation, restored connections, renewed hope and been a cultivator of the ground for future reconciliation. His work is both intensely focused on the clients and families in his private practice and then outwardly to the systems that serve them, locally, at the state and tribal level, and nationally.
